Duration: ca. 2:30

Program Note

Written for the live performance of my public primary instrument junior recital (in partial fulfillment of requirements for the degree Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Music Composition and a Minor in Business Administration).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I really struggled to find my artistic passions. I was in the midst of developing my own compositional voice, which was unfortunate because it was within the confines of my bedroom (due to mandated nationwide shutdowns). This was an important work, however, due to its source material's effect on my immediate inspiration. As its adventurous harmonic progressions and advanced chromatic harmonies began to occupy my brain, I dissected the original piece at the piano and really came to enjoy it.

Undergoing this brief activity then, I learned a lot of compositional techniques and unique harmonic language that inspired me to keep going and further my career-path towards music composition. You will notice the original theme with some variations and original compositions, spliced into a homage to where I was in the pandemic creatively, and what I have overcome.

Dedicatory & Acknowledgments

Dedicated to the time in the pandemic-era where I chose to not give up on my creative talents and instead double-down to continue my early career in music composition and theory.

A special thank-you to the following musicians for their help and dedication in premiering this new work: Eva Ayala, Jayland Brown, and William Regalis. The enthusiasm and belief in which you have expressed for my future compositional aspirations is beyond inspiring, and I am in complete awe of each of you and your individual talents and accomplishments.
